How to Replace an audi keys replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or audi a1 key replacement (hikvisiondb.webcam) G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test as there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. To accomplish this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire while in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. 5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many issues with your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi replacement key fob's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is turning. When this sensor fails, it could affect the performance of the transmission and the other car's components.

The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points.
