How to Replace an audi spare key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Audi a3 key fob replacement Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are several connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for audi Keys oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, Audi Key Programming or a misfire while in the gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi key programming's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is turning. When this sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. You can also examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points.
