A 3-wheeler can be used for off-road walks and to tackle terrain from uneven paths or woodland tracks. They can also be easier to maneuver up and down kerbs than 4-wheel models.

MadeForMums reviews editor Kath tried one of these 3 wheel stroller and car seat-wheelers with her newborn and three year old daughter, putting it through its paces on the asphalt and on the muddy ground. You can read her full review here.

Stability

Four-wheel buggies, with their center of gravity being balanced by your child's weight in the seat, are generally more stable than three-wheelers. But that doesn't mean the three-wheel buggie isn't worth a look, since many of these models are made to handle everything from rough terrain to bustling high-streets.

For a buggy that's easy to control and will not let you down on muddy roads, opt for a model with large rear wheels and a lockable front wheel. These buggies are typically equipped with pneumatic tyres, too. They are ideal for handling non-paved surfaces and can be used on sandy beaches or woodland tracks.

They're also the best buggies for running with, since they provide excellent stability on rough terrain and help you keep pace with your running partner. They can also go up and down steep kerbs, and a lot of them come with spring suspension that is built-in, so your child will enjoy a comfortable ride.

A stroller with three wheels can be a challenge to maneuver due to its wide frame. It is more difficult to get through doorways and narrow spaces than a 4-wheeler. However some manufacturers have solved this issue with a clever design that makes the wheels flip up when not in use, which decreases their overall size and allows you get through doors without difficulty.

You'll also have to consider whether your buggy is suitable for your child from birth or if you're thinking of using it with an infant car seat or carry cot. Find out if the buggy comes with a lie-flat feature and if it is compatible with a second seat and buggy boards if you plan to take an infant along. Many 3 wheel pushchair with car seat-wheelers fold flat and can be upright when folded - handy if you have limited space in your car boot or only a little storage space at home. Some 3-wheelers require you take off the front wheel to fold them into smaller spaces.

Manoeuvrability

Three-wheeled buggies are more maneuverable than strollers with four wheels. Many of them have an swivelling wheel at the front, which allows you to steer and change direction with just one hand. Some also come with a lockable front wheel which gives you the stability you need on rough terrain. Some models can be used with a second seat or buggy board in case you're planning to grow your family.

If you intend to take your three-wheeled buggies off the roads that are asphalted then you should opt for one that has pneumatic tyres. They are able to handle the most difficult terrain. These tyres may require periodic pumping, but will be far more durable than tyres made of solid rubber and are more likely to be puncture-proof. You should look for models with an adjustable front wheel that is locked to assist you in navigating difficult surfaces.

The fact that there is only one front wheel may also mean that three-wheelers tend to be heavier than buggies with four wheels when folded. Make sure the model you choose fits in your car's boot and can be placed in a straight line if needed. Some models fold with one hand, and stand up when collapsed. This will save space in a small car boot.

A good 3 wheel pushchair is able to cope with most terrain from busy streets to tracks through woodlands. It's important to think about the purpose you'll use it for day-to-day. If you will be making the school run with it, it should be able to handle steep slopes and kerbs. If you'll be running with it, check that it has a lockable swivelling'stretch' front wheel to ensure that the ride is stable.

Kath the MFM reviewer, was able to determine that her stroller with three wheels was able to handle both urban and walks in the countryside. She said it was able to negotiate cobbles, rough paths and uneven pavements easily and was comfortable while running. It's also a great choice for day trips, as it comes with plenty of storage space, including a huge and spacious basket that has a zip-top cover and an expandable 50+ UV hood. It can also be adapted for baby from birth with a lie-flat seat or carry cot, as well as being compatible with the majority of popular second seats and buggy boards.

Fabric Sling Seat

The primary difference between a fabric sling and a modular seats is that the fabric sling sits in the frame of the buggy rather than being positioned on top as a modular seat would. This makes it easier to maintain an comfortable and ergonomically-correct position for the baby, resulting in a lower center of gravity that is just the right height. This translates into an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you don't need as much weight and effort to lift the buggy off the nose of a curb) and better stability and balance.

These seats also have sling fabrics that are easy to clean and durable. These fabrics were developed specifically for Sling chairs and are highly UV-resistant and ventilated. They also have a great durability and are easy to clean with water and soap.

If you're a jogger or you like off-roading, then an all terrain buggy is more likely to meet your requirements than a four-wheeler. These models have a larger base, are more stable and have air-filled tyres that allow for smooth and easy movement on rough terrain.

A brand that is most famous for its car seats, Maxi-Cosi has recently added a new 3 wheel stroller-wheeler to its lineup with the Stella. The all-terrain buggy has an enormous, spacious and impressively growing seat that can be a world-facing or parent face and reclines flat using an improved 5-point safety harness. It can be used with car seats or a carrycot starting at birth. It also has an ample shopping basket.

This luxurious 3 wheel running stroller wheeler is designed for the most discerning buggy owner, is as beautiful to admire as it is functional. The angular frame has stunning pewter finishes with touches of burnished aluminium. It's a show-stopper. A spacious, cushioned seat that can be used as world or parent facing with an improved 5-point safety harness as well as a full set of rain covers makes this a great option for parents who are active.

Modular Seat

Modular seating can be arranged in various ways to meet a variety of seating needs. Whether it's a cozy setup to watch films or a large arrangement to entertain guests, modular seating can adjust easily. A lot of modular seating systems come with cushions that can be removed which makes it easy to clean spills or stain.

Modular Seating can be designed to blend in with existing decors or be a standout as an accent piece. You can pick from a range of colors, fabrics and shapes to create an elegant and modular seating design that fits your style. Modular seating also comes with various functional features, including hidden storage compartments that make it easy to organizing.

3-wheel buggies offer more stability than strollers with four wheels, making them ideal for off-road or all-terrain adventures. The large, highly maneuverable front wheel allows for smooth and quick movement. The tyres, which are usually filled with air and have suspension, offer a comfortable ride on even the most rough trails and roads. The wheels aren't as close to the ground on these pushchairs, as they are with 4 wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.

Often, 3 wheeler strollers-wheel prams are a favourite for parents who enjoy running and jogging with their children as they offer great mobility and are much more sleek than their 4 wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL for example features a sleek, burnished silver aluminum frame, an easy fold that can be folded in one hand and forward and rear facing seats, while the Babyzen Yoyo has an all black frame, a carrycot with full lie flat position with air-filled tyres as well as three recline positions.

Another excellent all-terrain option is the incredibly light, extremely maneuverable and amazingly stylish Mountain Buggy Sport verso. This is a buggy that truly future proofs your wallet and will take you from birth using the carrycot, right through to toddler-hood with the modular seat (and beyond!). All of this is done within the footprint of one buggy.

Duet(tm) is a side by side buggy that is small enough for city life yet also creative and controlled. It has a unique fabric seat that is positioned comfortably within the frame at the right height to distribute weight. This makes it easy jumps over kerbs, and navigates neighborhoods and cities.
