3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair

A pushchair that is all-terrain with excellent maneuverability will suit you whether you are searching for a buggy for nature walks or a stroll on the high streets. These models typically come with large wheels and suspension systems that provide smooth riding on bumpy terrain.

Many are suitable for babies and include seats that can be placed in a flat position or a carrycot for newborns. They also usually have foam-filled never-flat tyres to reduce maintenance.

Suspension

A true all terrain pushchair will have a good suspension, designed to be extra smooth on rough terrain and help your child to feel comfortable and at ease. The wheels will also be large and typically be a puncture-proof type to protect against damage caused by sharp rocks or sticks.

Some all-terrain strollers even provide the option of switching between tyres with different conditions. Depending on the kind of terrain you want to explore, some all-terrain pushchairs have a swivel front wheel which can be locked for stability or left unlocked for greater maneuverability when required.

To give you added security, some all-terrain pushchairs will feature a locking handbrake that is much easier to reach and utilize with your hands than with an ordinary brake pedal located to the side of the handlebars. This is an excellent feature for those who are a fan of steep hills.

If you don't want go quite as extreme as an all-terrain stroller, there are a lot of strollers on the market which offer excellent - but not ultimate - off road capability with great suspension and big wheels. They tend to be less expensive than full-on all terrain buggy models and can work well for short strolls in the countryside or trips to the park.

A lot of these pushchairs can be used for babies from birth, whether with the carrycot or a newborn-ready car seat. Be aware that the seats will not lie flat when pushing over bumps or dips. According to EU regulations, they only have to meet minimum requirements of an incline of about 150deg. Graco has solved this issue with its new 'comfitech seat suspension' which allows the seat to recline at a flatter angle for more comfort. This is available on the Lila XP all-terrain pushchair which can be used with an appropriate Graco infant car seat to create a 3 wheeler pushchair off road in one travel system.

Seat

There is a broad selection of 3-wheeled all-terrain pushchairs available, which offer a superb off-road capability. They are perfect for those who reside in the countryside or regularly walk on rough, uneven ground. They are often more robust and durable than a standard pushchair, with special features such as large puncture-proof wheels to handle the most difficult of surfaces. They are often quite large and may be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces or in the aisles of shops.

All-terrain buggy seats are positioned either parent or world facing. They grow with your child from birth to toddler. Certain all-terrain pushchairs have front wheels that lock, which offers additional stability when walking on rough terrain and over high kerbs. Some have swivel wheels on the front that allow you to maneuver the buggy more easily when you change direction or turn corners.

Most all-terrain pushchairs feature air-filled tyres which offer excellent shock absorption and are perfect for rough terrain, but they're more prone to punctures than solid EVA tyres found on city strollers that are light, so it's worth buying an repair kit along with a spare inner tube and pump alongside your pushchair. Some all-terrain models have foam tyres that are less prone to punctures but they're not as effective in absorbing shock and may be more difficult to push than tyres filled with air.

The new Bugaboo Fox 5 is a great example of a child's pushchair that comes with foam-filled and air-filled tyres. UPPAbaby's popular Ridge all-terrain pushchair is a great illustration of this. It offers excellent suspension, a simple one-handed fold and a generous 10kg basket. It also has parent-friendly features including an adjustable handlebar, hand-operated brake on the right and a large, covered storage space. The hood can be taken off and washed using cool soapy-water to prevent mildew or mould.

If you plan to take your all-terrain stroller off-road choose air-filled tires rather than rubber grips. They'll provide a smoother ride over rough terrain and will make it easier to navigate through tight spaces. If you plan to use your all terrain pushchair for occasional jogging make sure that the front wheel can be rotated or has a quick release feature to lock it into place for more stability.

It's important to check the fabric of the pushchair is machine washed to maintain them in pristine condition. If not, a spot cleaning with warm water and a little of gentle soap should suffice. Drying the fabric thoroughly outdoors will also help to prevent the growth of mould and mildew.
