Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to the more modernized Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be applied to weapon and armor items. They boost the stats of whatever item they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using a professional or higher salvage kits to salvage upgrade items components from items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it is able to take on. The ability to absorb damage of a piece armor will increase when it's upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it should be heavier.

There are a few different types of armor upgrades available in the game and each one has distinct effects. For instance, some upgrades give the armor a certain number of health points while others will make it lighter and stronger. The type of armor upgrade that an item upgrader kit can get will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges to use. Weapons

Jewels

The quality of a diamond can be improved upon by the Jeweler in stages that range from Crude to Royal. Based on the level of the jewel it will give different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

The Jeweler can craft the highest levels of gems apart from the rare and legendary ones which require certain levels to gain. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped with another jewel of the same kind without damaging it. You can only replace the gem once within an item of equipment.

Utilizing more jewels in the movement will make it feel smoother and is typically performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels create an area that is stronger than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots won't cause harm as easily.

In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be freely exchanged, however they're not guaranteed to be available as loot. Trinkets

Trinkets are items of equipment that bestow an array of small but useful benefits to your hero. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by performing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak, which grants an unimportant but beneficial boost to speed of movement and the ability to escape. Then, they can get amulets, rings, and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant buffs and skills that are active even when the character is not fighting. This allows a hero to be more efficient while inactive. It can also make up for the lack of a good team or talent tree slots which would normally be filled by the hero's optimal stats.

In general trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace soon. Next, any items that have desirable statistics aren't as significant as the iLevel of the item upgrader kit to be upgraded.
